BC Culture Days Provincial Launch

Whistler to Host BC Culture Days Provincial Launch

Vancouver / July 12, 2017: Audain Art Museum will be presenting the provincial launch for the 8th annual BC Culture Days weekend (September 29-October 1, 2017). The launch is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 28, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Audain Art Museum, 4350 Blackcomb Way, Whistler.

"As an institution dedicated to showcasing the art of British Columbia, we are honoured to be the host of our province’s official BC Culture Days launch event,” said Suzanne Greening, Director of the Audain Art Museum.

Whistler has come together to develop programming for BC Culture Days through a series of community planning sessions facilitated by Arts Whistler's Executive Director, Maureen Douglas. “BC Culture Days provides Whistler’s arts, culture and heritage sector with a great opportunity to collaborate and showcase our collective cultural offerings. We look forward to having the community discover and participate in Whistler’s diverse cultural places and programs,” said Douglas.

Whistler was invited to host the annual kickoff by the BC Culture Days Steering Committee, a committee of arts and cultural leaders from across the province working together to help promote the Culture Days movement by increasing accessibility, awareness, and public engagement around arts and culture.

Culture Days culminates each year in a weekend of free activities for the public taking them ‘behind-the-scenes’ to discover the world of artists, creators, designers, curators, and other creative people in their communities.

The launch will kick off with a public opening ceremony, followed by a Youth Art Challenge (live art-making for youth 13-18), free access to the Audain Art Museum’s Permanent Collection and Special Exhibitions, and a showcase of local musicians. A formal program will be announced in September.
